“Twisted Landscape” explores an extreme place of continuous transformation, the North German coastal landscape, which is shaped by tides, storm surges and increasingly also by climate change. The photographs artistically describe the unique life cycle of this landscape: it comprises a long phase of birth and maturation, followed by an equally long stable phase in which the landscape shows its highest biodiversity, and often ends in an abrupt and dramatic collapse. The death and rebirth of the landscape naturally occur synchronously along the coast. Like the landscape itself, its components are subject to constant change by the tides: With each rhythmic coming and going of the water, the shape, color, adjacencies and connections of the objects change - right down to their optical properties. Disappearance and decay are also part of this process. The photographs search for a visual language that is appropriate to the fascinating life cycle of the landscape and its elements.
