Twisted Landscape explores the North German coastal landscape, with its Wadden Sea, as an extreme place of constant transformation. Shaped by tides, storm surges and, increasingly, the effects of climate change, it undergoes a unique life cycle: a long phase of formation and maturation is followed by an equally extended period of stability and high biodiversity, before the landscape often collapses abruptly and dramatically. Along the coast, formation and dissolution occur naturally in synchrony.
Its constituent elements, too, are subject to constant change. With each rhythmic turn of the tides, the shapes, colours, spacial configurations and visual properties of sediments and organisms change, their relationships to each other.
The Wadden Sea is an unstable, enigmatic and ambiguous landscape, a place full of mystery.
